Rosemary Ann Howlett

“Smarter and wiser than anyone knew.”

Some of the sharpest minds never get the recognition they deserve — not because the brilliance isn't there, but because the world wasn't always paying attention. This site exists so the next generation of brilliant women get seen, celebrated, and taken seriously while it still matters.

It's dedicated to Rosemary Ann Howlett: an artist, a thinker, and a presence who was — quietly, consistently — smarter and wiser than anyone around her ever fully knew. We hope the women profiled here carry a little of that same brilliance, just out loud instead.

🖌️ Her work

After co-founding an early computer-retail company, Rosemary became a prolific painter — watercolor and Chinese brush painting, a tradition she studied seriously enough to travel to China for it. In 2004 she won the Salmagundi Award from the Pen and Brush Society in New York for one of her Chinese brush paintings.

She served as President of the Art League of the Chathams for six years, and in 2010 was one of three artists commissioned to paint a winter scene of the Great Swamp as a mural in the Chatham Township Municipal Building.

🎓 The Rosemary Howlett Scholarship

After Rosemary's passing, the Art League of the Chathams renamed its $1,000 annual arts scholarship — awarded to a Chatham High School senior pursuing art as a career — in her honor.

Recent recipients: Eva Marrinan (2025), Will Farkas (2024), Rachel Novak (2023). Their work deserves a spotlight too.
